Pu Erh – Ripe Yunnan Tea
普洱茶
This isn’t simply a full-bodied black tea, Pu Erh is a whole other category of its own…
Pu Erh is a fermented leaf produced thanks to a microbial breakdown of the leaf, a process actively encouraged by tea producers during the aging, fermentation process. When sipping this tea, you are partaking in a rich tea culture and heritage and stand at the threshold of some of the worlds finest tea cultivations.
This particular leaf is a ripe Pu Erh, ‘Shou’.
Ripe Pu Erh is an attempt to create the same conditions found in Raw ‘Sheng’ cultivation, over a much shorter period of time.
In ripe production the leaves are effectively composted in an oxygen rich environment to further encourage microbial bacteria to age and alter the state of the leaf.
Be advised this aged leaf from Yunnan Province has a higher concentration of caffeine as a result of the aging process.
